Today was our beach day! I was pretty excited to go, as this is our first time since getting here, and the first time in a while in general since I have been to the beach. We went with two friends we had made, one of which was the guy who led the singing event the night before. He and I had previously played music together at some of the other gatherings as well.
On our way, we went over a bridge over a river where there are supposedly crocodiles! We walked across the bridge, with cars on one side, and the edge on the other, so it felt a little scary, especially with my fear of heights. However, we made it to the middle, and lo and behold, down below in the river, we saw a crocodile! To be honest, I was more afraid of the height, but that is because I was a good distance away from the croc. If I was right next to it, I would definitely be pretty scared. However, now I can saw I’ve seen one in the wild!
We continued on our way, until we hit some bad traffic. We were stuck for about 15 minutes, and we were worried we’d never move, but then we finally were able to move again!
We finally made it to the beach, and it was really cool! We had lunch at a restaurant overlooking the beach, and it was really good. The food was pricey, but there was a good portion of it.
After that, we took a walk along the beach and saw a lot of beautiful rocks, which Sophie was very excited about. We also saw a really cool tide pool and rock. We saw little tiny fish in the water there, and later on, I saw some crabs living in the crevices of the rock, as well as some barnacles.
After a while, Sophie and I went into the water. The temperature of the water was lovely! It was like a lukewarm bathtub temperature, and much warmer than when I had been to California beaches previously.
We went a ways out, and it was really fun, though at one point I did get slapped in the face by a big wave.
After we got out, I sat and watched the crabs on the tide pool rock for quite a while, it was really cool to see them. It looked like they were picking things off the ground and eating them, or maybe they were cleaning themselves.
After a while, we decided to head on home. We stopped at a store for some trip snacks, since it looked like there was going to be traffic again, and then we made the journey home. And yes, there was indeed traffic.
We eventually did get home, though it was fairly late, so we got ready for bed and went to sleep.
