Today, we took trip down to the town. We visited several stores: First we went to a hardware store. Here we got some things for the house, including a small handheld vacuum, which has come in handy! When we were leaving the hardware store, we had a little jumping spider on the windshield! Then we went to the post office, where we got our PO box set up, so we can now receive mail. Then we went to the phone store to get Sophie a data plan, and then filled up gas at the gas station. Interesting note is that here, they pump the gas for you, and then you pay after. Then finally, we went to a market to get some groceries. We were pretty tired after this, so we went back home, though we did stop at the Maxipali on our way back to pick up a few more items. Since it is a bit of a hassle to go into town, we'll probably try to stack errands on our trips. In the evening was a campfire/birthday party for one of the people, and I went to it. Met some new people, and I helped start the fire. The ...

This morning, I saw another big lizard. I t may be the same one, but it is really cool to see the large lizards! We tried  to deal with the ants and such, and we sprayed this citrus spray with some added soap. Sophie said that would help, and it did! It seems to keep them outside now. Later, Sophie did some yoga with her mom. I caught up on my blogging and did some other logistical stuff on the computer. Now we are going out to go explore the jungle a bit. Later: We just got back from exploring the jungle. First, we went into our backyard and went down the hill into the jungle. The foliage was very dense, and the ground was often soft and mushy. It helped that I had a walking stick that I had found a few days ago on one of my walks. It was steep and slippery in parts, but we made it to the bottom, and found this very large tree. It was covered in moss, and vines draped down from the branches. Sophie mentioned it would be a good place to have swing, and it probably would, but we'd l...

Today I had my first cup of coffee in the new coffee maker. It was really good! It made me really excited for the day. We got ready and headed out to a place called Pequeño Mundo. It was quite a drive, as it was pretty far away. We got a lot of house stuff, including a computer desk and office chair for me. It was quite a big shopping trip, as there were a lot of things that were needed in the house. After our shopping, we had some food at this restaurant called Casa Ajena in El Roble. It was really good! It was nice to have some food after all the shopping. On the way back home, we saw a lot of animals. We saw chickens and a goat on the side of the road, as well as some stray dogs. Sophie also saw a cat. We also saw horses and cows in pastures. However, the highlight was that we saw capuchin monkeys near where our house is! Sophie saw them first and pointed them out and we stopped to take a look. That was so cool! Getting back, we spent some time putting the new house things together....

We went into town today to get more things for the house. Ilana is here, so we all went down there together. We went to one place to get some kitchen stuff, and then went a few doors down to get a coffee maker, air fryer, and some induction compatible pans. One pan is a small skillet, and the other is a deep pan that can double as a pot. We had lunch at a restaurant on a bit of a hill. It was really nice, they had these delicious watermelon drinks. I had a rice dish which was very good as well. We also had some fried yucca, which was delicious! I am sorry that I forgot to take pictures of the food, as it was really good. I also tried out the ATM for the first time, so now we have some colones. We got the 10,000 (10 Mil) colones bills, and much to my delight, on the back of the bill, there is a sloth! I think that is really cool. They also have a few other ecological things listed there, which I think is fitting since they do a lot to protect their natural environment. Our new pans! The...

We went to a community meeting today. It was both on zoom and in person, but we did not know about the in-person part, so we just joined by zoom. We can go in person next time. I made a new batch of rice today, this time just the white rice, and it turned out well again. That electric skillet does a good job for cooking rice! We also watered the plants again, as there are some plants underneath the house that don't get water when it rains. After this, I took a walk by myself around the community. It was good exercise, as the hills are fairly steep. It was nice to get out and walk. In the afternoon, we met up with some new friends we had met at the party the other night, Ian and Daniella, and their cat Raja. It was really enjoyable. We had a lot of good discussion and got to know each other some. We looked forward to spending more time together! Later, we had dinner with Ilana, it was very good! We brought some of our rice and beans to share. We saw some cool bugs outside. We saw a ...

So today we mostly stayed home and relaxed. Ilana will not be here till tomorrow, and we are still trying to settle in. I took this opportunity to wash my hair. Sophie had gotten me this really nice brush that detangles my hair really well, so that helped a lot. She also helped me dry it today, which is necessary here, since air drying does not work so well in the humidity. I think it turned out pretty well, and sorry, I forgot to take a picture! It rained again, as it tends to do this time of year, so it was nice to listen to, though it is quite loud sometimes on the metal roof. One bit of excitement for the day came as we were getting ready for bed. I had my flashlight out and spotted a big spider near the dresser cabinets! I was luckily able to catch it and release it outside. Kind of a bit of a scare though. I do get freaked out by large insects a bit at first, but I don’t want to kill them if I can help it. But this one ended ok, so it was all good. Not exactly sure what kind of s...
